Me And Baby Brother / School Girl Crush

NIGHT OWLS – Me And Baby Brother (feat. Kevin Sandbloom) / School Girl Crush (feat. Kendra Morris)

Just in time to round out the summer, Night Owls hit the decks once more with their signature Jamaican stylings of classic funk and soul cuts done right! This 45 is no exception, featuring two sides of hard hitting funky goodness only Night Owls have proven to deliver. Starting off on Side-A we find War’s classic “Me and Baby Brother” featuring blue eyed soul singer Kevin Sandbloom, a voice that has been on Night Owls producer/guitar player Dan Ubick’s radar since first hearing him over twenty years ago. Sandblooms soulful, raspy tenor has garnered him opening slots for Anthony Hamilton, Gil Scott-Heron, Saul Williams and Bilal over the years. But that’s not all…Night Owls brought in War harmonica man Stanley Behrens (Willie Dixon, Etta James, Jimmy Smith, Canned Heat) to bless the track to which War’s Lonnie Jordan exclaimed; “Sounds funky good!” Then on Side-B, packing a mighty punch, we have Night Owls’ funky reggae remake of The Average White Band’s “School Boy Crush” (now “School Girl Crush”) as Cali via NYC’s Kendra Morris (MF Doom, Wax Poetics Records, Dennis Coffey) brings some serious red hot energy to leave you thinking the band enlisted all three prime-era Pointer Sisters. Infused with dub elements and drops outs as Kendra faithfully nails Alan Gorrie and Hamish Stuarts delivery and longing, this cut is sure to get you up and have on repeat all day long!
